The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to publicly disclose the names of contractors and companies implicated in embezzling over ₦167 billion allocated for uncompleted projects across 31 federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
In a letter dated November 30, 2024, signed by Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP urged the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to provide detailed information on the affected projects, including their locations and amounts disbursed.
The allegations, stemming from the 2021 Auditor-General’s report, suggest that Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc alone paid ₦100 billion for contracts that were never executed.
Other implicated MDAs include the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Nigerian Correctional Service, National Pension Commission, and Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project.
SERAP argued that naming the contractors and companies involved would help deter widespread corruption.
It also urged the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and anti-corruption agencies to recover the stolen funds and prosecute the guilty parties.
In its statement, SERAP warned that corruption of this scale worsens poverty, increases inequality, and limits Nigerians’ access to essential public services.
The organization threatened to pursue legal action if no response is received within seven days.
