The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised alarm over a disturbing rise in fraudulent A-Level results, disclosing that over 580 fake certificates have been identified so far in 2025.
According to details shared during an internal briefing held on April 2nd, JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, confirmed that the board’s efforts to verify academic credentials have led to the discovery of hundreds of falsified results submitted by candidates seeking tertiary admission. At least four individuals connected to the fraud have been arrested and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.
The meeting, which was conducted virtually, formed part of preparations for the forthcoming UTME and was aimed at addressing operational challenges ahead of the nationwide examinations.
Oloyede expressed concern that some of the fraudulent credentials were uploaded through officially approved centres, raising questions about complicity among operators of Professional Registration Centres. Thirteen forged IJMB certificates were traced to these centres, prompting a wider probe into examination malpractice syndicates.
Beyond document forgery, the board is also dealing with complaints of unethical practices at some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, where candidates reported being charged for services meant to be provided at no cost. JAMB has warned staff and partners to maintain integrity and avoid actions that could undermine public confidence in the examination process.
The board’s data monitoring initiative, the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPSED), continues to play a key role in verifying applicant records and weeding out irregularities.
