The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced that fasting may extend beyond Sunday as the moon marking the end of Ramadan has not been sighted in Nigeria.
According to a statement from NSCIA Secretary-General Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Muslims are encouraged to look for the Shawwal crescent after sunset on Saturday, March 29, 2025. If confirmed, Eid al-Fitr will be observed on Sunday, March 30. However, if the moon remains unseen, fasting will continue until Monday, March 31.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, urged Muslims to fulfill their Zakatul Fitr obligation and pray for the nation’s peace and stability.
In contrast, Saudi Arabia has declared Sunday, March 30, as Eid al-Fitr following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent.
