The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has put in extra efforts to combat oil theft in the Niger Delta, dismantling 34 illegal refining sites and arresting 11 suspected oil thieves.

These operations, conducted from November 18 to 24, spanned Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, and Akwa Ibom states, recovering over 80,650 litres of stolen crude and refined products.

In Rivers State, troops deactivated several refining sites in Buguma Creeks and other locations, seizing over 25,000 litres of stolen products and intercepting additional quantities in local reservoirs and wooden boats.

Similar activities in Bayelsa and Delta States led to the interception of illegal operations, including storage facilities in hotels and hidden boats.

The operations also uncovered vehicles loaded with stolen products in Edo, while troops in Akwa Ibom maintained pressure on criminal activities across waterways.

All suspects have been handed over to authorities for prosecution, and the stolen products were disposed of.

General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Maj. Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, commended the troops for their efforts in securing Nigeria’s oil and gas resources and curbing criminal activities in the region.
